Quit Smoking Advice

Sponsors:

These clips are from the BBC: Horizon documentary series entitled “We Love Cigarettes”. The advice Allen Carr gives is pretty damn good, it convinced me (a 5 year smoker) to quit cold turkey. It has been a couple months now and I’m still going strong. Update: It has been over one year since my last cigarette and I have never been tempted to look back. I really hope this simple advice has helped someone else.

some definite subliminal messages in here, perhaps subconsciously to reinforce the idea of discounting smoking. in the beginning for example, he says “wonderful thing” while simultaneously brandishing a newspaper with the word SEX in the headlines flashing across the screen

@scooterinnc84 They should make a placebo cigarette that doesn’t have the harmful chemicals in it to hurt you, but still tastes and makes you crave the exact same thing, so that you can smoke all you want to, and it will still be healthy. I just have a habbit of lighting up because that’s what I do every day, and I’m used to having the hand to mouth movement. We can all get through this. You may think you need a cigarette, but do you really? Just say screw it and quit even though it’s hard.

Trying to quit smoking is all psychological. It’s hard as hell if your a continual smoker. It’s just a habbit and the fact that you want to smoke and chill and it relieves stress. I’ve been smoking for 9 years. I’ve quit for 6 months before but started again because of a stressfull financial accounting class in college. That’s an excuse but it relieved stress. Even though I’m smoking, I think if you have the mind set you can quit. Just say hell with it and do everything you can to quit.

I keep hearing everyone says go to weed, but doesn’t weed make you rather stupid? It kills your brain cells, and doesn’t make you very active. I say don’t smoke anything, and leave a useless need out of your life.

@The420DubStep (spelling?). I agree with you a 100%!!!!![ tho I think I'd express it a tad differently! Lol :) ] Thank you. I wish the government/nation would not look at marijuana with taboo-tinged eyes. It’s sad how many essentially good people are in jail (which our taxes support) because marijuana is criminalizes!

i had similar thoughts and that is basically what got me to quit. for the first few days when i felt desire to smoke something id just smoke a joint. i smoked one or two joints a day for about 2 weeks and basically forgot about cigarettes altogether. a few weeks later i had the sudden realization that i hadnt smoked a cig for over a month. And i didnt desire the crutch of the joints either. 3 years without cigs now and Im NEVER going back! EEEWWWWW!

This worked for me. I smoked for 6 years and quit cold turkey. The only way to stop cravings is to not smoke. The more you smoke, the more you want to smoke! I had my cigs in front of me while driving and did not smoke. One month so far. So if you decide to quit – and you smoke one cig, you will want to smoke more today and more tomorrow and so on.

@ElectronicCigsFREE Yeah, I tried them, they leak liquid nicotine. Nicotine, can be absorbed through the skin! I got sick to my stomach from a nicotine overdose! E-cigarettes have a long way to go before they’re safe!

@2010classic YOU are in control. I quit with loads of people smoking around me because I made the decision and stuck to it. I can’t decide for them but I can control myself.
I would be a coward and a whimp if I didn’t pass that test. Consider yourself inside a computer game where you have to overcome obstacles and pass each stage. In the meantime, you get health and social bonus points.
